The Roberts of Wig Crossing

My grandmother

My grandmother was born Charlotte Emma Roberts, on 19th November 1883 at 1 Wig Crossing, Aber, Bangor, North Wales, into a Welsh-speaking family. She died on 12th October 1972, aged 88.

I remember hearing a story of how she flew with Bleriot, who was touring the UK after his cross-channel flight in 1909. Apparently she went up in a joy ride, as did her father, known as Taid. But I cannot verfiy this.

Other pages describe her experiences as a nurse in WW1 in more detail, marriage to Frederick Baker and journey to China, an attempt at chicken-farming in Canada, move back to China, and subsequent escape back to England.
