I am gradually trying to fill this up, largely using images from pages of the books that my father Eddie produced in his retirement. He did great research, and wrote very well – I can’t improve on what he did, but can add some more photos and basic information.
My mother’s family
The background to my grandfather – Frederick Baker – and my grandmother – Lottie Roberts of Wig Crossing. Their meeting in France in WW1, getting married, and starting living in Shanghai. A disastrous attempt at farming in British Columbia (where my mother Fay was born), and their return to Shanghai in 1924.
My mother brought up in Shanghai
Living in Shanghai, growing up, going to school, going round the world in 1932. Then being captured by pirates, and finally evacuating from Shanghai under gunfire in 1937.
